John Millar joined Divaris Real Estate's Corporate office in Virginia Beach in 2002 as Executive Vice President and Principal.  Millar's responsibilities include the development of new business and consulting assignments with colleges and universities and Institutional Investors; redevelopment of obsolete retail assets; development of DRE's equity strategy; and the development of mixed-use College Town Centers. 

Previously, Millar held senior positions with several prominent national firms. Most recently he was with Jones Lang LaSalle as Executive Vice President in charge of all shopping center functions including leasing, property management, marketing, and redevelopment for a retail portfolio of 45 million square feet, including 50 regional malls. 

Prior to that, he held a similar position as Executive Vice President at General Growth Properties in Chicago, Illinois where his duties covered all functions for 48 million square feet of retail in 55 regional malls.  In this position, John added 73 regional malls as new business between 1989 and 1999, from 45 Institutional Clients, resulting in management and leasing revenues of $100 million.  In addition, he supervised the redevelopment of 15 regional malls totaling $150 million of reinvestments. 

From 1980 to 1988, Millar was Senior Vice President of Property Management for Goodman Segar Hogan, a Norfolk, Virginia based company, in charge of 15 million square feet of regional malls, 2 million square feet of strip centers, 2 million square feet of local office buildings and 1 million square feet of industrial properties.  In addition, Millar was in charge of the Asset Management of the $500 million portfolio of GSH/EF Hutton office buildings throughout the sunbelt.  He was also responsible for the negotiation of the joint venture between Sovran Bank, N.A. (now Bank of America) and Norfolk Southern to develop the 300,000 square foot Norfolk Southern Tower in Downtown Norfolk, Virginia.

Prior to 1980, Millar was Vice President of Thalhimer Department Stores in charge of opening and operating the three Thalhimer stores in the Greater Hampton Roads area.  He also was Director of Market Research for Jordan Marsh-Florida, based in Miami, Florida.

John, a Certified Senior Shopping Center Manager (SCSM), has been a faculty member of the University of Shopping Centers, a speaker at the ICSC Convention in Las Vegas, a speaker for the ICSC Management and Marketing Conference and is presently serving on the ICSC Design and Development Awards Committee.  Millar is also an Urban Land Institute full member and an International Council of Shopping Centers member.  He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government from Cornell University, and a Masters of Business Administration from The Darden School at University of Virginia.
