Pierre Deux Brings a Bit of Provence
to the Southeast

VIRGINIA BEACH, VIRGINIA --  For those who know the difference between an étagère and a armoire,  its easy to recognize the French Country-style of the products for sale in a Pierre Deux store.   And even if you wouldn’t know a toile ottoman if you fell on it, chances are, if you spent any time in Pierre Deux, you’d appreciate the quality of the imported offerings. Pierre Deux sells a broad range of fine French fabrics, hand-crafted furniture, lighting, wall coverings, home décor and gifts – making them the ultimate resource for all that is French Country.

Celebrating over 40 years of business, Pierre Deux first opened its doors in 1967 as a quaint, Provence-themed antique shop in New York City.   At present, the company operates 20 stores across the United States and one store in Japan.

Some of the supreme locations where Pierre Deux stores can be found include:  Design and Decoration Building in New York City; Newbury Street in Boston; Philadelphia’s Main Line; Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood, Carmel and San Francisco, California; Greenwich and Westport, Connecticut; Millburn, Ridgewood and Secaucus, New Jersey; Dallas; and Toyko, Japan.  And the company is adding a very few select new stores to its roster.   Virginia Beach-based Divaris Real Estate, Inc., is assisting Pierre Deux in its search for suitable locations in high-end markets throughout the country.

Recently, Gerald S. Divaris, chairman/CEO of DRE, negotiated a lease with Pierre Deux for space at Fairfax Square in Vienna, Virginia.  Fairfax Square, located on Leesburg Pike across from Tyson’s Corner, is a high-end, Class A, mixed-use development with retail on the ground floor, and offices above.  The retailers are some of the world’s most exclusive luxury stores including Tiffany, Fendi, Gucci, Morton’s Steak House and now, of course, Pierre Deux that has leased 4,096 square feet of retail space on the first floor.

“The second store we’ve negotiated on behalf of Pierre Deux is in Red Bank, one of the exclusive towns in
New Jersey.  We’re working with our Realty Resources affiliate, RJ Brunelli & Co., on the lease,” according to Divaris, “Pierre Deux will occupy space next door to Tiffany, in the former post office building, adjacent to the new, exclusive Garmany fashion store.”

The third new Pierre Deux store will be located on Kings Street in Charleston, South Carolina, an area that is well-known for its exclusive stores, antique shops, art galleries and home furnishings stores.  Again, Pierre Deux wanted to capture the strong trade area demographics in the market, plus the tourists and visitor trade that the historic Old Town attracts.

“The site selection process for Pierre Deux is very targeted and very specific in their choice of sites and their target customers are very well defined,” Divaris says, “They look for strong densities of highly educated, high-income populations of consumers who travel extensively, have a high affinity for good food, and who appreciate the luxury brands and products.  Only the best locations are being considered and evaluated.”

Accolades for the company include being rated in the top ten percent of all catalogs reviewed by Catalog Success magazine and being ranked among the best home brands by the Luxury Institute’s annual “Best-Of” surveys.

Goods are categorized into French Country Favorites, furniture, home décor, rugs, accessories, lampshades, tabletop, wallpaper, gifts and fabrics.  The kitchenware section of Pierre Deux, Le Cordon Bleu Shop, sells linens, cutlery, wine essentials, books, videos and collectibles.

According to the company’s web site, www.pierredeux.com, “Pierre Deux fabrics range from sprightly Provencal prints to elegant toiles de Jouy to impressive woven textures.  To complete the overall design and look, wallpapers coordinate and complement the fabric.  Tablecloths and placemats, colorful dinnerware, hand-blown glass and pewter flatware beautify a table setting for entertaining.  Antiques add a patina of history, while exclusive artisan-made objects, from wrought iron chandeliers to carved wood lamps to home fragrances in antique-style bottles help to create a unique ambiance for living well.”
