Abercrombie & Fitch Opens Its Doors at Town Center of Virginia Beach
New Main Street store re-introduces shoppers to the brand’s modern retail experience
Virginia Beach, VA (September 21, 2026) — Abercrombie & Fitch opened the doors to its new 5,033-square-foot store in Town Center of Virginia Beach over Labor Day weekend, giving Hampton Roads shoppers their first opportunity to experience the retailer’s redesigned store environment.
The completed store brings one of retail’s most closely watched brand transformations to a physical storefront in Virginia Beach. Founded in 1892 as an outdoor outfitter, Abercrombie & Fitch later became one of the defining mall brands of the late 1990s and early 2000s. In recent years, it has rebuilt its identity around a modern adult customer, with expanded fit options and a more approachable shopping experience. The company says the Abercrombie brand surpassed $2 billion in annual sales for the first time in 2024, while parent company Abercrombie & Fitch Co. reported record sales of $5.3 billion in 2025.
The opening also restores a full-line Abercrombie & Fitch presence in Hampton Roads after its former MacArthur Center location closed in 2020. Its new home underscores how much both the brand and its preferred retail setting have changed: from the enclosed malls that defined its earlier era to a street-facing storefront in a walkable district where shopping, dining, offices, hotels, residences and entertainment share the same urban core.
“For many Hampton Roads shoppers, Abercrombie is a name tied to a particular time and place, but the store they are walking into today tells a very different story,” said Gerald Divaris, Chairman and CEO of Divaris Real Estate. “Its return brings both recognition and relevance. It also reinforces Town Center’s ability to attract brands that are growing, evolving and choosing physical locations where they can become part of the daily life of a community.”
The brand’s evolution is visible in its merchandise as well as its presentation. Abercrombie now serves a broader adult audience with expanded sizing and fit offerings, including its Curve Love denim and bottoms, multiple length options and a wider range of silhouettes than the brand was historically known for. The assortment has also grown beyond casual basics to include workwear, occasion dressing, activewear, licensed sports apparel and the A&F Wedding Shop.
At Town Center, Abercrombie & Fitch joins a Main Street retail lineup that includes lululemon, Anthropologie, Free People, Madewell and Bluemercury. The concentration of nationally recognized brands, combined with restaurants, entertainment and a built-in population of residents, employees and visitors, creates the kind of active, experience-oriented setting retailers increasingly seek.
“Abercrombie’s decision to open here is significant because it brings a resurgent national brand into the region in a format that fits how people shop now,” said Sezin Cortinas, Executive Vice President with Divaris Real Estate, who represented the landlord in the lease. “Town Center gives the brand visibility, giving local customers a reason to rediscover Abercrombie in person.”
The store is located at 4537 Main Street in Town Center of Virginia Beach, which is owned by AH Realty Trust and leased and managed by Divaris Real Estate. Current store hours and shopping information are available through Abercrombie & Fitch’s online store locator.
